Questions and answers
Straight answers about the drive, your privacy, and pricing.

How it works
Does the AI run on the USB drive or on my computer?
On your computer. The drive stores the AI software, the model, and the dashboard. When you start the launcher, your computer’s processor, memory, and graphics card do the work. The drive has no processor of its own.
Can I use it without internet?
Yes, after setup. Once the required software and model are installed, the core workflows run with Wi-Fi off and network cables unplugged. First-time setup, updates, and downloads may need a connection. Connecting the drive leaves your internet connection unchanged, so disconnect networking yourself for fully offline work.
Does it work on every Windows computer?
Compatibility beyond the development computer has not been established yet. Performance depends on the computer’s processor, memory, graphics card, and the drive connection, and managed computers may block the software. Ask about your computer and we will tell you what we know.
Can it run on a Mac or Chromebook?
Mac and Chromebook compatibility has not been established. The Educator Edition is built for and tested on Windows.
Why does Windows say “Unknown Publisher” when I start it?
The launcher and the open-source AI server on the drive carry no digital signature, so Windows cannot name a publisher and asks you to confirm. Check that the file is in the OfflineAI folder of the drive you received from us, then select Run. See screenshots of both prompts.
How are updates provided?
Updates arrive as a ZIP file that we supply. You install it with the updater included on the drive, which checks every file and keeps a backup of the previous version. Updates are installed manually; the software never updates itself. Download the latest update and follow the five steps.
Privacy and your files
How do I know my information really stays private?
You can check it yourself. Switch on Airplane mode and create a draft: it still works, which an internet-based AI could not do. You can also watch the browser’s network log or ask Windows which connections the AI program has. On our development computer, all 24 of the dashboard’s requests during a test went to 127.0.0.1, the computer itself. See the five checks, step by step.
Is student information sent to a cloud AI provider?
The supplied dashboard sends AI requests only to the AI server on the same computer, and it uses no cloud AI services or analytics. Your computer’s security, other applications, and your school’s policies still matter. Read the privacy details and limits.
What happens to my work when I close the dashboard?
The dashboard starts in a temporary session. Drafts, imported document text, and grading data live in browser memory and disappear when the session ends, unless you save them. You can save course settings, kept drafts, packets, and templates to a workspace file, and export documents to Word, PDF, or CSV. Exported files stay where you saved them.
Does encryption cover the entire drive?
No. Optional passphrase encryption protects saved workspace files and backups. The rest of the drive, original documents, copied text, and Word, PDF, and CSV exports remain unencrypted. A forgotten passphrase cannot be recovered.
Grading
Can it grade papers?
It proposes rubric scores. For each criterion, the local model suggests a score, feedback, an improvement, and supporting quotations. You review, adjust, and approve every grade. The current model’s grading accuracy has not been validated, so compare its proposals with papers you have already scored. Read about the grading workflow.
Who approves the final grade?
You do. Only grades you explicitly approve are included in the CSV export, and any later edit requires approval again. Final grades remain the instructor’s responsibility.
Can it detect plagiarism or AI-written work?
No. The Educator Edition does not detect plagiarism or AI-generated writing.
Can I export Word, PDF, and CSV files?
Yes. Drafts and individual grading reports export to Word or Print / Save PDF. Approved grades export to a CSV file. Nothing is posted to a learning management system automatically.
Can I grade long papers?
Usually. Since update 0.9 the dashboard uses a 16,384-token context window, and each request must fit the assignment, one criterion, and the whole paper. When a paper is too long, the dashboard blocks the request and tells you. It never shortens a paper silently.
Buying and editions
How much does it cost?
The Educator Edition comes on your choice of three drives: Pocket (a MOVE SPEED 512 GB USB stick with a built-in screen) for $449, Rugged (Samsung T7 Shield, 1 TB) for $539, and Premium Storage (Samsung T9, 2 TB) for $749, in US dollars before tax and shipping. The software is the same on all three. Package contents, support terms, and the return policy are confirmed with you before you pay. Compare the options.
Can schools purchase several drives?
Please ask. School licensing terms have not been set, and we would like to hear what your school needs. Contact us about several drives.
What is Everyday Assistant?
A general-purpose local chat included with every edition at no extra charge. Open it from the bottom of the dashboard sidebar for questions and writing outside your profession’s workflows. It uses the same AI on your computer, and its chats stay in that browser tab unless you save a backup.
Can I switch to a different industry edition later?
Policies for future editions, switching, and upgrades have not been established yet. Each edition is a separate drive.
Glossary
- Context window (tokens)
- The amount of text the AI model can consider in one request. A token is roughly a short word or part of a word. The default setting is 16,384 tokens.
- CSV
- Comma-separated values. A plain spreadsheet file that grade books and spreadsheet programs can open.
- GPU and VRAM
- Graphics processing unit, the graphics card, and its video memory. A suitable graphics card can speed up local AI.
- LMS
- Learning management system, such as the online course platform your school uses.
- Loopback address (127.0.0.1)
- A network address that always refers to the computer you are using. Other computers cannot reach a server bound to it.
- OCR
- Optical character recognition. Software that reads printed text from scanned images.
- RAM
- Random access memory, the computer’s working memory. The AI model loads into it.
- Quantized model
- An AI model stored in a compressed form so it needs less memory.
